A cineSync in 9 saves time

For the newly released feature film 9 from director Shane Acker, animation work was spread all over the world. Initially communication with far flung studios was a problem, until the work was redeployed and cineSync used to streamline the communication process.
Starz Animation, a long time cineSync user, was brought in to complete the project on a very tight timeline. While they had the expertise and the experience, communication was key, given the multiple simultaneous processes required to finish the film on time.
In an article on Studio Daily, Starz Associate Producer Graham Moloy talks about how it was achieved:
The final challenge was time: Starz had 14 months to do a full-length feature. At its peak, 128 Starz artists worked on the film. For the last few months of production, Acker was in San Francisco (sound was done at Skywalker) and Starz stayed in touch with him by using CineSync, a remote review-and-approval tool based on QuickTime media. “Shane could draw over our frames and step through the shots,” says Moloy. “This tool was key for us, enabling us to do a portion of the show remotely.”
